Not everything from your old life belongs in your new one. In this episode, we talk about the courage to remodel — replacing broken routines, toxic habits, and outdated beliefs with something that actually fits who you’ve become.

So this subject is something I know a lot about because you know I went through it and um it's uh something I feel that was very vital in me moving forward and very vital in me surviving and very vital in me becoming who I am now and being stronger. You have to let go of your old self and you know build this new person that you're becoming. Um your old self probably has habits that weren't good, that weren't serving you, but you found enjoyment and so you did it. And then uh when you're building this new you, you realize those things don't really serve you and they never served you, so what's the point of doing it? Uh one of my issues was just that I overworked myself with no limits. I just pushed it. I didn't care about sleep, I don't care about drinking water. Um I definitely didn't care about eating all the things. It was just work, work, work, work, work. Then for me, I had to learn if you want to be a high performer, you want to work these long hours and do all these things, you're gonna need to take care of yourself. You're gonna have to make sure you're okay so you can handle it. If you don't take care of yourself, your body won't be able to handle it, and then you'll falter. So I had to learn to love sleep. I had to learn to force myself to eat often. I had to learn to stay hydrated. Energy drinks ain't gonna help you all the time. Literally, the the day that I went to school for two classes, worked part-time at Walmart, and then worked my security job from 10 to 5. I had during the day I don't think I ate much, and then the night during the security job, I had a monster and a taco bell. And I think clothes because I've always smoked, but nonetheless, you know, I had all that energy drinking on. And guess what? I was driving back to the campus, I fell asleep at the wheel. Fell asleep at the wheel, hit the guard rail, swerved across traffic, went into the other side of traffic. Luckily there was no cars because it was early in the morning, and then you know I had to pull it back over into my side of traffic, and then uh, you know, we grew from there. And that was with me getting Taco Bill and drinking a monster. It shit didn't work. And you know why it didn't work? It's because it was a buildup. Those days, prior to that day, I was still working full-time and going to school full-time and working that part-time job. So my schedule was packed and I did not allot myself enough time to go to sleep and rest. Not just that, but just eat and drink in general. I was just in go mode, but not knowing how to actually handle it. And then that day that I wrecked the Mustang was the day that it all came to a head because my body couldn't take it anymore. My body couldn't handle it. One thing your body does if it needs something, it's gonna make sure that it happens. Let's believe it. You can fight your body all you want. If your body wants rest, it's gonna get it. One way or another, it's gonna happen. Um so when that happened, I was like, okay, well, I need to well actually my first thought was I need to go to work today. And my mom was like, No, you're not gonna work, you're gonna sleep. And I was like, Okay, fine. Um, and then you know, when I got into the military, actually, it did get better. I did manage it better. But you know, outside forces kind of changed the trajectory trajectory of me being able to sleep like I want to. So once again, no sleep. It uh it was a detriment. And then, you know, you go to now, you know, I've kind of flip things and make sure I get my sleep. I love to sleep, I love to take naps, make sure I eat my meals. I do still drink energy drinks, but I drink coffee, I drink water, like I drink everything. So, you know, I stay hydrated. Like I do all these things to take care of myself so I can keep moving forward. Um, I make sure I have at least one, two good meals a day. Um, I'm doing all these things because in order for me to actually move forward and do well, I need to take care of myself. I think before I didn't really think about taking care of myself. I was just out there trying to do work and didn't really care about taking care of myself. It was more just like, let's get this thing done. But um, I feel like I've um changed from who I was and gotten better with that. So uh with me doing that, I feel um there's a lot more balance and it's a lot more easier for me to achieve my goals. So for you, you need to think about all the things that you're doing and what's not serving you and not hoping you reach your goals, and learn to phase those things out and make some new habits. It'll take a while. Um, they say it takes 21 days to make a new habit permanent. I mean that's not a lot of time at all. You definitely do it. So, um, you know, make new habits that'll serve you and what you're trying to do. Release all those old habits that took you away from the goals you're trying to achieve. I'm Juice Castone.
